Tanzania could unlock new infrastructure-financing opportunities through a strategic partnership between local contractor Mwananchi Engineering and Contracting Company Limited (MECCO) and Poland’s export credit agency, KUKE.

Announced on October 11, the partnership is designed to connect eligible Tanzanian infrastructure projects with financing opportunities, Polish technology and industrial expertise.

The agreement could support projects requiring substantial investment in construction, equipment and technical services. It also creates a potential route for Polish companies to participate in infrastructure development and strengthen commercial ties with Tanzania.

MECCO Chief Executive Paul Woodman said the arrangement aims to help develop projects eligible for financing linked to Polish exports and establish competitive, long-term credit arrangements.

KUKE President and Chief Executive Janusz Władyczak said the partnership could open opportunities for Polish businesses to supply equipment, provide consultancy services and participate in construction work.

However, the Sh2.4 trillion figure represents the scale of the financing opportunity, not confirmation that the full amount has already been disbursed or secured for specific projects. Actual benefits will depend on project selection, financing terms, approvals and implementation.

The partnership could become an important development for Tanzania’s construction and infrastructure sectors as the country seeks funding, technology and international partners to deliver major projects.
