Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed made an unannounced visit to the historic Aghlabid Basins in Kairouan on Tuesday, underscoring the government's commitment to cultural heritage preservation and national development.
During the visit, the head of state reviewed the progress of restoration work being carried out at the historic site and its surrounding areas. The project was launched in July 2025 following presidential directives and is being implemented under the supervision of military engineering authorities in cooperation with heritage specialists.
The restoration initiative aims to protect and enhance one of Tunisia's most significant historical landmarks, while supporting cultural tourism and preserving the country's rich architectural heritage.
Officials view the project as part of broader efforts to safeguard national treasures, improve public spaces, and strengthen the role of heritage sites in economic and tourism development.
The surprise inspection reflects continued government attention to major public projects and the preservation of historically important locations across Tunisia.
