LILONGWE, Malawi — Malawi’s creative sector is gaining a new research opportunity as the University of Malawi’s School of Arts, Communication and Design launches a call for experienced arts and culture researchers.
The initiative, supported by the Rei Foundation Limited, seeks researchers who can contribute knowledge and analysis to Malawi’s developing arts and cultural sector.
The programme comes as Malawi continues to explore ways of strengthening its creative economy, supporting artists and documenting the country’s cultural identity.
Greater investment in arts research could help identify new opportunities for Malawian artists, cultural organisations and creative entrepreneurs.
The initiative also highlights the growing importance of research in understanding Malawi’s creative industries and ensuring that local artistic knowledge receives greater recognition.
With music, visual arts, film, literature and traditional culture increasingly contributing to Malawi’s cultural profile, stronger research could help connect creativity with education, employment and economic development.
