Madagascar is preparing to host a regional cybersecurity event in Antananarivo as governments and businesses across the Indian Ocean strengthen efforts to protect digital systems and sensitive information.
The Indian Ocean Cyber Month 2026 programme is scheduled to take place from October 27 to 29, bringing together organisations and professionals to discuss cybersecurity challenges, artificial intelligence and data protection.
The event is being organised by the Indian Ocean Cybersecurity Observatory, with support from regional partners and telecommunications company Yas Madagascar. Discussions are expected to address how businesses, public institutions and other organisations can improve their digital security practices.
As more services move online, protecting customer information, business systems and public-sector networks has become an increasingly important challenge. Cyberattacks can disrupt operations, expose confidential data and undermine trust in digital services.
The Antananarivo programme will provide an opportunity for technology professionals and institutions to exchange knowledge and explore approaches to managing cyber risks. It also places Madagascar within a wider regional discussion about digital resilience and responsible technology adoption.
The event could help strengthen cybersecurity awareness and cooperation in Madagascar, although long-term improvements will depend on continued investment, specialist training and practical security measures across organisations.
With digital services expanding throughout the region, cybersecurity is becoming a central part of building a safer and more reliable digital economy.
