A Libyan visual artist is aiming to make history with a bold new cultural project that could set a world record in contemporary public art.
Imad Al-Sanousi Al-Houni has revealed plans for a modern mosaic mural covering approximately 2,300 square metres, a size that would exceed the current world record for a mosaic artwork. The project is expected to become one of the largest artistic achievements ever undertaken in Libya.
According to the artist, the initiative will bring together around 50 visual artists who will contribute to the creation of the monumental work. Training programs are also being organized to develop skills in modern mosaic techniques and artistic design.
Preparations are already underway, with the project site selected and efforts continuing to secure materials and technical resources. The initiative has reportedly attracted support from business leaders and institutions interested in promoting arts and culture.
If completed as planned, the mural could place Libya in the international spotlight, demonstrating the country's artistic talent while promoting cultural tourism and creative industries across Africa.
Art supporters believe the project represents a powerful example of how large-scale public art can inspire communities, celebrate creativity, and strengthen cultural identity.
