BUJUMBURA, Burundi — Burundian artists are set to take part in the I Am Hip Hop Festival 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, as East African creatives prepare for a major regional celebration of urban arts.

The festival will take place on August 28–29 at the French Institute of Rwanda and will bring together more than 30 artists from Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi.

The programme will feature rap, breakdancing, graffiti, DJ performances and streetwear design, alongside workshops and studio sessions aimed at strengthening collaboration between young artists across the region.

Organisers also plan to develop a regional collaborative album, a streetwear concept and a documentary emerging from the creative sessions.

Burundian participation gives the festival an important cross-border dimension, allowing local artists to connect with new audiences and creative networks in the East African region.

The event could provide valuable exposure for Burundi's growing urban arts scene while encouraging young creatives to work beyond national borders.
