Security has been reinforced in Mubende District after a series of deadly attacks on residents, with police arresting a suspect as investigations continue.
Ugandan security agencies have intensified operations in Kitenga Sub-county following attacks reported on October 9 that left residents dead and several others seriously injured.
Police identified the arrested suspect as Nelson Nuwataho, who was apprehended in Ibanda District on October 12 by crime intelligence officers. He was subsequently transferred to Mubende Police Station for questioning.
In response to the attacks, authorities deployed 50 additional Field Force Unit (FFU) personnel from Naguru in Kampala to reinforce existing security teams working alongside the Uganda People's Defence Forces.
Police say the deployment is intended to protect residents and property, prevent further attacks and support ongoing investigations.
The incidents reportedly involved killings, attempted murder and aggravated robberies in several villages. However, investigators have not publicly disclosed the full evidence against the arrested suspect or established the motive behind all the attacks.
Residents are awaiting answers as security agencies work to restore calm. Police have indicated that investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances of the attacks and determine whether other people were involved.
The suspect remains under investigation, and the allegations against him have not been proved in court.
