ASMARA, Eritrea — Eritrea’s mining sector is emerging as one of the country’s most closely watched areas for economic growth, with the Colluli Potash Project drawing renewed attention from investors and regional business observers.

The project, located in the Danakil Depression, is being developed through a partnership involving the Sichuan Road and Bridge Group and Eritrea’s National Mining Corporation (ENAMCO). Eritrea’s mining industry already plays an important role in generating export earnings, particularly through mineral production.

Colluli’s proximity to the Red Sea and international markets is considered one of its major commercial advantages. The project is focused on potash, a key agricultural input used in fertilizer production.

If the project reaches commercial production as planned, it could significantly increase Eritrea’s mineral exports and strengthen the country’s position in the global potash market.

The development is also attracting attention because of its potential impact on infrastructure, logistics and employment connected to mining operations.

For Eritrea’s wider business sector, increased mining activity could create opportunities for transport companies, contractors and other suppliers supporting the mineral industry.
