DJIBOUTI CITY, Djibouti — Djibouti is exploring an expansion of its fuel infrastructure and regional energy-trade capacity, with government officials discussing the opportunity with a United Arab Emirates-based oil group.

Djibouti’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Djama Mohamed Hassan, held talks with Hussain Sultan Lootah of the UAE-based group about expanding infrastructure that serves the Ethiopian market.

The discussions highlight Djibouti’s important role as a regional logistics and trade hub, particularly for supplying landlocked Ethiopia.

Expanding fuel-storage and distribution facilities could strengthen Djibouti’s position in regional energy logistics while creating opportunities for investment and related services.

The project could become particularly important as demand for reliable fuel infrastructure grows alongside regional transport and commercial activity.

Djibouti’s strategic location near major maritime routes and its established port infrastructure give it a strong position in serving neighboring markets. The IMF has also identified port activity, transportation and telecommunications among the key drivers of Djibouti’s economy.
