MORONI, Comoros — Comoros is strengthening its digital-finance ecosystem after AXIAN secured a Decentralised Digital Financial Institution licence from the Central Bank of Comoros.
The licence enables the creation of a new regulated entity operating under the supervision of the country's central bank. AXIAN says the move forms part of its broader strategy to develop secure, interoperable and accessible digital financial services across Africa.
The development could expand opportunities for digital payments, fintech services and financial inclusion in Comoros, particularly for consumers, entrepreneurs and businesses seeking easier access to formal financial services.
It also comes as Comoros continues building its wider digital infrastructure. The country has been pursuing initiatives aimed at expanding connectivity and modernising digital services.
The new licence could give Comoros' technology sector additional momentum by linking financial services with digital innovation.
For local businesses, stronger digital-finance infrastructure could eventually make electronic transactions and other technology-enabled financial services more accessible.
The development places fintech and digital financial inclusion among the increasingly important areas of Comoros' technology transformation.
